How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Please, tell me, I want to sleep vicariously through you!
Seriously, no one told me when you’re a brand new mom for the very first time, it’s hard to shut off your worries and brain and allowing yourself to SLEEP. Look, if all night long you find yourself on extensive Google searches asking if your baby should be snoring or not, massaging your breasts in the car, or even sniffing fenugreek pills, I’m convinced, we are not crazy, we just need more sleep!
Studies have shown new mothers are dangerously exhausted for months! Not even the allotted time given for maternity leave is enough time to snap back from motherhood. I can’t make this up, here is the data —> http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0103513 <— check it out.
This Australian study tracked the sleep quality of 33 mothers through their first months taking care of new infants. The mothers registered medically-significant levels of sleepiness, even after 18 weeks.
I know what you’re thinking, Australian?? I’m from Merica! haha I got you covered there too… This study showed that to the average American worker will clock in with only six hours and 53 minutes per night.
So what’s the moral of the story? WHEN BABY SLEEPS, SO DO YOU!
